Palomares and Villaricos
Ironically it was the Broken Arrow incident of January 1966 that focused attention on the entire region and encouraged the start of the ongoing wave of resettlement. The small port town of Villaricos and the extensive beaches near Palomares, were until recently overshadowed by developments in other areas. Proximity to golf, to its own marina port, to water sports, to the beaches of the area and the slightly lower prices have made this area popular choice for both holidays and for property sales in the last 5 years.
Only 1 km from the coast, Palomares village retains a Spanish feel largely unaffected by the coastal development of the area. Palomares is ideally placed for golfers; Desert Springs (5 mins), Valle del Este (20 mins) and Marina de laTorre (20 mins).
Palomares offers a mixture of traditional Spanish houses and new apartments for rent. The village has various shops, banks, doctor, chemist and a number of Spanish bars offering tapas and light snacks. The main fiesta is in early August.
Within walking distance of Palomares is a long stretch of sandy beach and tree covered picnic area, with two Spanish beach bars offering typical Spanish fare during the high season. There is also a very good English bar in this village. Slightly further a way are numerous rocky coves waiting to be discovered and often empty even in high season.
Palomares nearest neighbour is Villaricos, also within walking distance, with its bars, restaurants and 2 picturesque marinas
